FAQ

What about rain? We live in Florida and have to deal with the elements. We will reschedule the session is there is more than a 50% chance of rain. We do not shoot in lightning. We typical make the rescheduling call the day before or even the day of because of the ever changing forecast. June-Sept tends to be the rainiest time of year and reschedule is likely. We are also studio shopping so we can always have that setup as a backup location for any shoot.

Payments? We take cards, cash and checks. Your session must be paid in full before it starts.

Turnaround? You will have your full gallery back in 2-3 weeks.

Locations? We have shot in so many awesome locations. We can shoot in the city, park, beach etc. We are also currently shopping studio spaces so that is another awesome location for photos. If you have a place in mind let us know! If not we are happy to suggest a location. Just simply give us a style or a photo you like on Instagram. (@radportraitco)

Style Guide

Choosing Time & Date

We LOVE natural light because we feel that natural light creates photos that feel fresh, timeless and true to you. We begin all of our outdoor sessions during the “golden hour” when light is the dreamiest. Keep in mind that the sunset is much earlier during the cooler months and much later during summer so that will play a huge factor in when your session starts. To get the most out of your session, please plan a buffer when getting ready so you can arrive a few minutes early so we can get the most of your session time. If you are wearing 2 different outfits, save one for the 2nd part of the session and arrive in your first outfit. Also keep in mind that the hotter months photos can be tricky with photos so if you book a session during this time make sure to come prepared with water, towels or even additional outfits.

Quick Tip: Our weekends fill up super fast and far in advance. You can get a fast pass to the front of the schedule by booking a session on a weekday or in some occasions Friday/Sunday.

Selecting a Location

The location is always completely up to you! If you have a spot in mind just let us know. We can also suggest some RAD locations that we have shot at before. The location of your session should be a reflection on your style. There are city/urban options, beach options, woodsy/green options or even at your house or local coffee shop. Think outside the box for something extra special! We have even rented out a Plant Nursery to capture some stellar photos.

Something to consider: At Rad Red we travel often, its a huge passion of ours! You can also consider meeting us at one of our favorite national parks or cities and getting a session thats truly unique.

Style Tips for the Ladies

Have you ever dreamed about wearing a gown or flower crown? Photo sessions are the perfect chance to do that! There is no such thing as “too dressed up” for photos! Rent something from Rent The Runway or connect with a Florist and have something special made. We highly recommend not wearing shorts for ladies but instead say yes to a stunning dress you feel great in! Jeans and a flattering top are also a great idea for your 2nd outfit. Pairing your outfit with an accessory or two can also jazz it up!

Always think about your features! Every woman regardless of shape or size has the one part of there body they are a little self-conscious about. Confidence is KEY! Because confidence leads to being comfortable! So choose a silhouette you feel amazing in and can rock. Three-quarter length sleeves or really flowy dresses can be the trick. Go PRO! Hiring a professional hair and makeup person is also a way to feel good about yourself. We have a killer team that rocks it that we use frequently. We say all of these things because we want you to truly LOVE every photo and want to show them off and hang them on your wall. We don’t want you to look back at them and notice something you aren’t happy with and wish you could change something. Believe me, been there - done that!

Style Tips for the Gents

From James Bond to Don Draper, Men look most striking in a well-tailored suit. The best part? If you don't own one, there are now amazing rentals companies where you can affordable rent a dapper look. Check out TheBlackTux.com, its our favorite! Solid shades of gray or navy are a strong compliment to most women’s outfits, whereas pinstripes or plaid patterns tend to distract the eye.

If you feel like a suit doesn't suit you, pun intended :) Aim for long pants and a nice button down. Long pants and closed-toed shoes are the most sophisticated and masculine looks for men. They draw attention away from his legs and feet and place it where you want it: on the face. So, for your session, it’s best to leave the shorts and sandals at home.

Think details! Ties, bowties, cool socks, belts, tie clips, suspenders, vests and watches are sharp compliments to any outfit. You can still mix and match accessories to compliment both of her dresses without doing a full change during the session. So, either way, you win.

Things to avoid…
Hats
Logo or Branded Clothes
Baggy Clothes
White Socks

Quick Tip: For the adults, consider having a drink before the session - sometimes that can take the edge off any nerves! For the kiddos, pack a snack or treat to help keep them interested.

Ladies, make sure and prep your Men!

Most men aren't overly excited to take photos for 90 minutes, because they don’t have an expectation of what’s to come and why it’s so important to you. Take fifteen minutes to educate and empower your guy. Tell him why you chose us and our style of photography. Show him a favorite session that we’ve done, explain why you love them and express to him how much it means to you. Trust us, once he knows it’s important, he’ll light up the camera for you! The most common thing we hear from guys before engagement sessions is this: because of a bad experience in the past, they don’t like taking photos or don’t think they’ll be good at it. By the time we’re done, though, they can’t believe how fast it went and just how much fun they had!

What to expect

Remember what our goal is here: to create natural, fun images that represent you as a couple. We will take some time at the beginning to walk and chat so we can get to know each other a bit more. Once we start shooting, it will take a bit for you to start to feel comfortable in front of the camera and by the end you'll be professional models! (Kidding, of course, but we're sure you'll surprise yourself!)

Speaking of models, we definitely don’t expect you to go all “America’s Next Top Model” on us. We just want you to be yourselves. We will put you in positions and poses that feel natural and help create authentic moments. With that being said, if we ever pose you in a way that feels completely uncomfortable or you think feels unflattering, please speak up! We’re all about the experience and don’t want you looking back on your images and remembering how uncomfortable a pose felt.

Throughout the session, we may take a few minutes to pause, drink some water, relax and chat. We are not going to just shoot constantly for 90 minutes straight. We want to get to know you and we want you to get to know us. We want to know what makes you laugh, what you like to do for fun and what you love about each other. Feel free to ask us questions too. The more comfortable we are with each other, the better your pictures will be.

Turnaround time is 2-3 weeks

Please don’t hesitate to reach out for any questions or concerns! We are here with you every step of the way.
